Drum pendant lighting is not a new lighting concept, but a throwback to the 40s and 50s.  Whether you’re looking for a fun, funky, stately or elegant look in your home, you can make your own battery-operated light using just a few items. Measure the thickness of the drum shadow from the top edge to the bottom edge. Take the number you get, and add 4 inches. This is the width of the shadow. For example, if your drum shadow is 16 inches from top to bottom, add 4 inches to get 20 inches wide.

Measure your decorative fabric, and cut it to 20 inches wide. The length can be estimated by wrapping the tape measure around the shadow drum and adding 4 inches. This is the length of the shadow. Center of the decorative fabric in the shade drum. It should not be 2 inches above the top edge and 2 inches below the top edge. Hot glue one end of the fabric in the shade. Allow the shade to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Use your painter’s mask, and then spray the shadow drum with adhesive and soft on the decorative fabric that the rest of the way around the shade drum. Take the time to soften the air bubbles in the tissue. If you find an air bubble, use a small needle to make a hole in the fabric and expel the air.
