Wide Plank Distressed Wood Flooring Idea

Distressed hardwood flooring is a popular option for homeowners who want to give their interior spaces a more relaxed appearance. A distressed wood floor is one that has the appearance of decades of wear, complete with scratches, worn finishes and dents. Depending on the size of your wooden floor, you should be able to complete this task over the course of a weekend.

Sand areas of the floor with a hand sander, working in random movements so the floor does not look as if it were in difficulties on purpose. An electric hand sander will speed up work, but if you want a genuinely distressed look, use a manual sanding block. Drag the blade of a metal spatula across the surface of the floor to take out pieces of paint or stain it. Work in different directions to create a random effect. You can also use harder or lighter strokes in some areas to remove more or less paint or stain.

Drop a hammer or other heavy object on the ground to create dents, which will improve the distressed appearance of the floor. Repeat this process as you walk through the room, leaving small dents on the floor. Remove the splinters or rough edges of the plant with sandpaper or a low buffer.
